YGRR’s new rescue van is now on the road transporting Goldens and staff safely all throughout New England. After much deliberation as to what would best suit the program’s needs, a 2006 GMC Savana Passenger van was purchased. Our Kennel Manager had driven our “old” rescue van thousands of miles and had some very specific ideas about what would provide the most comfort to our rescue Goldens! Because the cargo van only had heat and air conditioning in the driver’s compartment, it was decided to purchase and convert a passenger van because of the enhanced climate control, more comfortable ride and sound proofing it would provide. We now have air conditioning and heating throughout the van and the ability to swing out side and rear windows for fresh air. In addition, all the windows are Solar-Ray light tinted for comfort and energy savings. The van has halogen headlamps, daytime running lamps and swing out double doors on the passenger side as well as in the rear. While our old van held 5 crates (4 large and 1 small), six large crates fit easily into the new van. We chose a Vortec 5300 V8 engine with a 4 speed automatic transmission. For safety in the New England winters, the van has 4-wheel drive antilock brakes.
