Happily Adopted!
CJ, YGRR #4581

CJ was happy to strike a pose in a flower garden at Riverview while he awaited his new adoptive home! CJ's owner found himself in an emergency situation when he had to move and could not take CJ with him. He had bought CJ as a puppy and they had been together for 7 years. CJ was described by his owner as a loving dog who was always delighted to see his owner's young grandchildren.

CJ was quickly brought into the program and taken to a YGRR veterinarian where he was found to be in very good health for his age. CJ subsequently settled into his kennel at Riverview and didn't have to wait long for his new home. A couple who had recently lost their older Golden liked the idea of giving a senior Golden a new home. When told about CJ, he seemed to be a perfect fit. CJ is now enjoying the flowers in his new adoptive home! His adopters say CJ is wonderful, he has fit in beautifully and they love him very much.

Happily Adopted!
Maggie, YGRR #4526

Maggie's original owner called YGRR because she was working two jobs, moving to a new home and was never home to take care of her Golden girl. Her owner said eight-year-old Maggie was a wonderful dog and loved everyone she met. She had not been able to afford vet visits to bring Maggie up to date on vaccinations or to provide pills for heartworm protection. She was able to feed Maggie a special diet because of her skin and ear issues and bathed Maggie with special shampoos.

Maggie was taken to the YGRR veterinarian where she was brought up to date on her vaccinations and given treatment for ear infections. She then came to Riverview and didn't have to wait long for her new family! Adopters were called to come and meet Maggie and understood the ongoing care Maggie would need with her skin and ear issues. Now, Maggie is in her new home and her family describes her as an absolute joy. They say it feels like she has lived with them forever. Her adopters take walks every day which oftentimes include swimming at the beach--which Maggie loves! Indeed, she is wet in most of the photos they take of her since swimming has become one of her most favorite pastimes.

Happily Adopted!
Jerry, YGRR #4527

Jerry's owner called YGRR when when she had to move and could not take her 10-year-old Golden boy with her. She had adopted Jerry at the age of 1, but the shelter had long since closed. She described this 105 pound boy as very friendly and easygoing. Jerry was picked up by a volunteer and brought to the YGRR veterinarian. He was found to be Lyme +, overweight and had a grapefruit sized growth in his armpit. The growth was removed, Jerry was put on antibiotics for the Lyme and he was brought to Riverview to recover.

In the wings was a repeat adopter who was interested in participating in YGRR's Senior to Senior Program. Dogs 10 and older are matched with humans 70 and older. Volunteer support is provided to the adopter in taking the dog to the groomer or veterinarian or to be available in an emergency.

Financial support is also given to Jerry's new owner through YGRR's CARE Program. (Comprehensive Assistance to Rescue Elders) When the adopter came to meet Jerry, everything went very smoothly and she didn't hesitate to take him home! She still felt the same way after she got Jerry home and he opened the refrigerator when she wasn't looking and ate a cooked chicken! Things have now settled down and they both enjoy their long daily walks. Both Jerry and his adopter are about the same weight so it's good that Jerry walks well on a leash!

Happily Adopted!
Tucker, YGRR #4564

Tucker came to YGRR because his owner died and there was no one to care for him. A close friend of his owner cared for Tucker in his empty home until arrangements could be made to bring him to YGRR. This sweet, seven-year-old Golden boy was brought to the YGRR veterinarian where he was found to be overweight (90 pounds!) and Lyme+. Tucker was given his tattoo, put on antibiotics and brought to Riverview to begin a diet!

Tucker didn't have to wait long for his new adoptive home. Experienced Golden owners who lived on a 77 acre horse farm were delighted to come and meet Tucker. The rest is history and Tucker is now confident and enjoying life on the farm. Tucker still enjoys a good meal and helped himself to his adopters' dinner one night when they weren't looking. After ending that evening with a can of soup for dinner, his adopters now make sure nothing is left on a counter or table unsupervised when Tucker is around!
