Brick Memorial Walkway Fulfills Many Needs

The inscriptions tell many stories, but most center on the wonderful personality of the Golden Retriever and all that sharing life with a Golden can mean.

In 1998, YGRR launched a commemorative brick walkway as a site where people could pay tribute to their beloved Goldens. At that time no one realized how the walkway would serve as an instrument of closure for those who had lost a Golden. While the majority of the bricks honor dogs who have passed away, others commemorate family and friends, the celebration of life or a joyous event.

The seventy-five foot walkway was laid out in a basket-weave pattern with unmarked bricks surrounding each engraved brick in order to set off the inscriptions from one another. Extending from the parking area to the "Welcome Porch" where all Rescue Goldens and prospective adopters enter, this area is now complete. In 2006 we are planning to open a new area in order to be able to continue this lasting tribute.
